SODIUM CROMOGLICATE [2%]
Sodium Cromoglicate Drops is used in the allergic conditions of the eye including acute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis and vernal keratoconjunctivitis. It is also used in the prophylaxis and treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Prophylactic treatment for seasonal allergic rhinitis should begin 2 to 3 weeks before exposure to the offending allergen and should continue throughout the season.
Mast Cell Stabiliser, Ophthalmic Non-Steroid drugs
Sodium Cromoglycate is used for the prevention of allergic reactions. It is believed to act primarily by preventing release of mediators of inflammation from sensitized mast cells through stabilization of mast-cell membranes.
Eye Drops: For Child and Adult: 1 drop into each eye four to six times daily. Nasal Drops: For Child and Adult: 1 drop to each nostril 4-6 times daily.
Sodium Cromoglicate has no known drug interaction.
Transient burning and stinging have occasionally been reported following use of Sodium Cromoglicate eye drops.
Mild throat irritation, coughing, & transient bronchospasm with a marked fall in pulmonary functions has been reported. In such cases treatment should be stopped and should not be re-introduced.
Cumulative experience with Sodium cromoglicate suggests that it has no adverse effects on fetal development. The amount of cromoglicate absorbed by a breast-feed infant can be assumed to be negligible.
Overdose is unlikely. In the event of accidental ingestion, symptomatic treatment is recommended.
Patients should be advised not to wear soft contact lenses during treatment with Sodium Cromoglicate ophthalmic solution. The treatment should also be discontinued in the presence of an allergic reaction.
Store at room temperature and protect from light. Any remaining contents should be discarded 4 weeks after opening. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface since this may contaminate the solution.
